Follow Your Heart

By Sunday, October 21, 2012 ,

Every now and then I get swayed by my own imaginations and sometimes they are the best part of my day. Okay, that just sounds a bit crazy and no, even if you are thinking I am not into any sort of depression but yes I just don't feel so good. I have no idea why, may be its the Fall.  Or may be it's because Gossip Girl's last season is running and there won't be no more Serena v/s Blair drama. Well, atleast I still have my Vampire Diaries.

Last night I was looking at the endless starry sky and all my world-ly problems looked so tiny in front of it. May be life is really not as complicated as it looks. May be its just a simple math problem but you are totally applying the wrong approach.
You have to be a little selfish and not care about the people around you for a while. You just have to follow your heart and wherever it takes you - that's where you will find the happiness you were always looking for.

Even if your heart wants a ridiculously expensive dress which you will hardly wear, just take them. They were made to make you happy after all.
Even if that means ordering an abnormally large sized dessert which you won't ever be able to eat alone.

And even if it means disappointing a few people. You can't possibly impress everyone about everything. You are bound to make a few mistakes. And I had rather follow my heart and make mistakes. I am young I am allowed to make a few stupid decisions and laugh about them later. I am allowed to take a few wrong turns before ending at the right one.

As my favorite Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City) once said  “twenties are for mistakes and thirties are to pay for them.”

  1. Very well said and beautifully expressed. .Especially i loved this line " You can't possibly impress everyone about everything. You are bound to make a few mistakes. And I had rather follow my heart and make mistakes." After all we are human beings and and we may do some mistakes knowingly or unknowingly in time, but whats more important is that what ever we do, we should feel good and right about it from heart, rather than thinking how others will feel about us and all. .yeah like you said, we have to be little selfish in time too!! ;-)

    1. Yeah Renju, you are absolutely right. It all comes down to what makes you happy and what doesn't . We just HAVE to be a little selfish sometimes

  2. There is an infinite logic in those words. I have met many people who try to please everyone. While they are certainly far from the target, they do earn the ire of some people who'd have otherwise sided with them.

    1. Pleasing everyone is just an impossible think to do. And even I can't stand those people who try it

  3. You live once. So live the life for yourself. If you are happy, then others will be happy too. If you are not at peace with yourself, then how other people be happy? Today, I am following my heart, so I can give you the same suggestion too. :) Not sure whether you can only do mistakes in your twenties. I believe, one should keep on trying and if mistakes happen on the way, then it is fine.

    1. It's just a way of telling myself I can do as many big blunders as I want because it will be taken care of by 'future me' :D

  4. Very true.. the best justice to do to your life is to live today like it was the last day of your life.. and ensure that when tomorrow becomes today, it is lived as zestfully as yesterday...
I like that quote - about 20's being to make mistakes, and 30's being to pay for them.. interesting one.

    1. Absolutely Punam. I believe in living in the moment too. You never know what's going to happen tomorrow but you can always control you present :)

PS : Have you watched Sex and the city ? Its hilarious !

  5. 'I'd rather follow my heart and make mistakes. I am young I am allowed to make a few stupid decisions and laugh about them later.' nicely expressed thoughts with such brevity.

  6. the biggest realisation you will make as you reach your 30s was 'why the hell was I trying to please everyone by cutting my own dreams short'... as long as you know u arent causing harm to anyone else, enjoy. These years will never come back...

    1. I don't mind harming a few people. Actually I had rather punch a few (That's on my TO DO list of the things to be done before I am 30 :D )

  7. Just got for it ritika! I think sometimes we must not think of ages and how convenient it is for makign a mistake. why can't 30s be for mistakes? Why do we need to pressurize ourselves and plan when we know that ultimately what we want is happiness?
Yes, we need to be considerate. We need ot think of others. but we also need to have fun. No point making all the "wise " decisions and then expecting your child to satisfy your youthful desires someday.

    1. That's true Kismi. When I'll be 30, I will declare 40's will be the time to be paid for them :P

  8. But I think we make mistakes in 30s as well. There is no need to overburden yourself in terms of choices. Mistakes are part of growing up and so does freedom of choice.

  9. Ritika, girl, I just want to hug you for this post. No I am not in my 20s, but I can totally relate to this now and 10 years from now. And it was only at this age that I have come to a realization to follow my heart! And I do it, all the time- yes it makes me happy :)
