I Set Fire To The Rain

By Monday, May 21, 2012 ,

Patience, is every girl’s strongest feature and the weakest too.

The Indian women today might be modern in a lot of ways, but at the same time we are conservative in our own ways . We might wear Jimmy Choo shoes and strut our way out, but at the same time we are not ashamed to wear a pair of label-less sandals that took us half an hour to bargain. We might go to a five star hotel to enjoy a nice meal but there is nothing that will ever replace pani puris in our heart.

Yes, we like to dress fancy sometimes for a reason or not for a reason at all . Yes, we take some time to get ready, but I cannot see a reason why we cannot. We don’t dress up for anybody else around, we dress up for ourselves. So that when we look in the mirror we see a strong confident woman who can take down any man in her way.

We might be better than our men in a lot of ways, but we never let them know that. Even if we earn a little more than our men, we would still make them feel like the patriarch of the house. Why ? Because we are like that.

But still all this does not give ANY man a right to make us feel low or insecure about ourselves just because we are women. No guy was and will ever be complete without a woman, you might not want to agree but the women in your life are the ones who can actually make your life work. From your mother to your sister to your wife.

God made Adam but then he realized what a mess he was, so he created Eve and the world was perfect.

Never underestimate a woman’s power, there was a Goddess Parvati and there was a Goddess Kaali . And a woman can turn into any of those nine goddesses.
Never take a woman’s silence for her meekness, she is only silent because she is testing your power.

With that warning, here is a song from Adele. Her boyfriend dumped her out of the blue and married someone else. She was so much in depression she wrote songs, an entire album. Today she is a millionaire and a FIVE time Grammy winner. Wonder what her ex has to say now?

  1. Nice post. You've spoken the minds of so many women on this earth. We are all trying to modestly, quietly make our mark in this male-dominated world. But lets keep at it !

    1. Modest is definitely the right word. But I have high hopes the world wont be 'male dominated' for much longer time :)

  4. It's not men versus women I feel, a lot of men are liberal and supportive of women's right to make personal choices, often more liberal than many women are (for gender equality). Some men and some women have a patriarchal mindset; and some men and women believe that everybody, men, women, children, senior citizens deserve to be treated with respect and should have equal opportunities to find happiness and justice in their lives.

Women are human and they have human weaknesses, they are capable of patience and impatience, fear, desires and greed as much as anybody else. They don't need to be like goddesses to be treated with respect (just like men don't need to be gods to be treated with respect) and men and women don't need to be better than each other to prove they deserve human rights.

Now going to listen the song :)

    1. Atleast for me women will always be one step higher than men,not because I am a woman but because a woman brought me to this world.
I agree 'some' men are liberal and supportive but we both know how small of a fraction they make in this society.

Women do not certainly get equal rights by being just as good as men,so may be its time to step up.
And that goddess thing was just a metaphor :)

PS :Did you like the song ?

  5. Well said Ritika, "all this does not give ANY man a right to make us feel low or insecure about ourselves just because we are women" - nothing gives anybody the right to make a woman feel low or insecure, because she is a woman. Those who do this are called Misogynists and such people are frequently insecure themselves.

    1. I completely agree with you on this one. Most of the people who try to make women insecure are actually insecure about themselves.

  6. WOW! What a post! We women, are far better than men in different ways! We just don't let them know it. And it is not because we are weak, it is because we are modest! Its time to celebrate being US, being a WOMAN. Cheers!

  8. "Atleast for me women will always be one step higher than men,not because I am a woman but because a woman brought me to this world."

Such pedestals become a burden for women - kind of a trap.
Say, what if a woman doesn't want to be or can't be a mother? Or if a woman wants equal contribution from the father in caring for the child? Are unmarried mothers also mothers or are they a curse on the society (and why, what about unmarried fathers? - nobody asks)? And are mothers allowed human 'weaknesses' of wanting to have a career, self reliance and a life while also wanting to be parents (other parents, like fathers have this luxury)?

I feel women should demand to be treated like humans - they should aim only for equality not for superiority. Because the fact is if women are treated as equal citizens and humans, they will not need to work harder and constantly struggle to prove their worth. (Human rights are for every human, rich, poor, talented or talent-less, weak or strong, man, woman, transgender, homosexuals, disabled, geniuses etc.)
Can you think of any human rights that women are denied? If women are given human-rights - do you think they would need to fight for anything else?

    1. Its not a burden or trap for women, every woman has a right to choose weather they want to have kids or not. I dont think even I want to have kids. But still,I do feel, for me a woman will be one step higher. Why ? Not because they are superior species but because they deserve it.

And yes, women are given equal human rights but how many of them are completely implemented everywhere? I went to a village in UP last month, and the condition there is horrible. I met with a girl, she was 16,married and pregnant. Infact she was forced to get married. When I told her I could help her,she ran off because she thought her family would come after her to kill her.
Human rights might be 'given' to the women but I had rather want them to be implemented everywhere..and thats they need to fight about

  10. Superb post. Women do not blink an eye in doing stuff which men keep on contemplating. Being the epitome of sacrifice and patience, they need to be taken care of and certainly should not be taken granted.

I totally loved the title of this post.

Take a bow my dear lady :)

  11. Sometimes I have to almost check myself from saying "I am lucky that I didn't have to endure any atrocities against me". heavens ! that's exactly how things are supposed to be.
So everytime someone says "you are lucky, your husband listens to you and values your opinion", I am like -- "That's why we are called better halves" ah well, It is another thing that I wear label-less slippers and strut like I have worn a Jimmy Choo.

  12. Excellent post Ritika. You have said exactly the things I keep thinking to myself. It's a horrible feeling when a man you think is "you life" leaves you just like that. And Adele... my god, she has revolutionized the very meaning of love, relationship and broken heart. Her songs just makes me want to get lost down the memory lane. Hat's off to her beautiful voice and spectacular lyrics.

    Good-day to you :)
